Welcome to the Honors Colloquium Leader Application.
Each year, the University Honors Program invites incoming Honors students to participate in our Honors Colloquium course. The Honors Colloquium is a one-credit, pass/fail course required of all first-year honors students. This course provides a common academic experience for new honors students to support personal growth, intellectual curiosity, and community building by focusing on their holistic experience as an honors student at a modern research university. The colloquium leaders serve as mentors to our incoming students and lead class sessions each week, designed to help students reflect on and pursue goals related to personal growth, academic and intellectual development, and community building.

Position Description:
Colloquium leaders serve as mentors, instructors, and resources for new students. Colloquium leaders hold class sessions addressing intellectual and personal development, and work to help build a community for incoming students in the Honors Program. As an Honors Colloquium Leader, you will create lesson plans and facilitate weekly class sessions for a group of first-year, laterally admitted, or lower division transfer honors students.
Eligibility:
Be in good standing with the FSU Honors Program with an FSU GPA of 3.2 or higher
Successfully complete Honors Colloquium by the end of Fall 2025
Successfully complete at least one Honors Signature Course by the end of Spring 2026
Enter 3rd or 4th year at FSU in 2026-2027 academic year (not applicable to transfer admitted honors students)
Complete 10 Honors Points before Fall 2026 (consideration can be made for laterally admitted and lower division transfer honors student applicants entering their 3rd year)
Position Requirements:
Attend a for-credit weekly training course in Spring semester before leadership appointment. Section assignments will be scheduled once selections are made.
Re-applying current HCLs are not required to re-enroll in the training course but will be expected to attend monthly events.
Attend HCL monthly community building/professional development events in Spring semester before leadership appointment.
Attend additional trainings and small group HCL sessions to be held during semester of leadership appointment(s).
Create activities for weekly class sessions in Summer B and/or Fall.
Facilitate weekly class sessions in Summer B and/or Fall.
Grade course assignments and provide substantive feedback.
Mentor a course section of ~15 students in classroom and one-on-one settings.
As you pursue this role, please keep in mind this position is a paid working role and will require about five hours per week during the teaching term. It is an Honors Program expectation that selected leaders will uphold this commitment to the fullest extent.
What does the application look like?
The application will be conducted in two phases.
Phase I includes:
- Applicant information & eligibility
- One written response
- Applicant resume

Phase II applications will open only to students who submit a Phase I application by the deadline and are invited to the Phase II application process upon Phase I review.
Phase II includes:
- Case study written response
- Two additional written response prompts
What is the timeline for this experience?
The application will be conducted in two phases. Phase I of the application will open in late September 2025. Late applications will not be considered.
Phase II of the application will be released to applicants under continued consideration in October 2025.
Invitations to interview for the role will be sent subsequently and final decisions will be made prior to the end of the semester.
Selected students will be enrolled in the Honors Colloquium Leader training course for the Spring 2026 semester and will instruct Honors Colloquium in the Summer B 2026 and/or Fall 2026 semester(s).
Other things to keep in mind:
Applications must be complete for consideration and must be submitted using a valid FSU secure sign in. Applications not submitted through the FSU secure sign in will not be considered.
